This paper tries to examine the place of women in American ecofiction. As American ecofiction generally deals with the environmental disasters and problems, the role of women in this genre as writers, characters and readers becomes a significant issue. Many writers of ecofiction are women, so most of the ecofictive works written in the first decade of the 21st century have a woman's perspective in one of the great issues of the world. Even if some of the ecofictive works were written by male writers, it is still possible to see many references to the relationship between environmental issues and women in their works. Besides these ecofictive works also have many women protagonists and other women characters and although the women and children are one of the least and last groups of people who have little or no contribution to the environmental degradation, they are one of the first and most affected groups of people from environmental degradation. This crucial paradox which creates an environmental injustice is worth considering. Then how women handle this question and how they can contribute to the solution of this problem by using their own characteristics may provide an interesting and beneficial perspective as other environmentally friendly policies have not fulfilled the expected development in order to stop environmental degradation, prevent possible environmental problems, and better the environment. In light of this perspective, this paper tries to analyze the relationship between ecofiction and women through making use of ecocriticism, and it tries to discuss the reasons and results of this relationship and focus on specifically the environmental injustice in this context by referring to the some elected ecofictive works written in the 21st century.
